Sweeteners. Are They All Harmful?

Sugar is not the most healthy product. You can cause significant damage to your health – diabetes, obesity, caries, etc. Therefore sweeteners have received the image of healthy supplements. Various sweeteners are used in dietary products, chewing gums, advertised as health-giving products. But do not sugar substitutes cause more harm than good?

Types of sweeteners:

⦁ Synthetic sweeteners.

⦁ Natural sweeteners.

Synthetic sweeteners

The most common synthetic sweeteners are: aspartame , saccharin, suklamate. All synthetic sugar substitutes are dangerous to health.

The sweetener aspartame is the most harmful. At a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius decomposes into formaldehyde (carcinogen A), methanol and phenylalanine (toxic in combination with other proteins). Causes dizziness, nausea, digestive disorders, headaches, insomnia, depression and increases appetite.

Sugary substitute saccharin – a carcinogen, can provoke the formation of tumors.

Sugary substitute suklamate – causes allergies (dermatitis).

Synthetic sweeteners do not only help to lose weight, but often lead to the opposite effect. Why is this happening? The fact is that when sugar enters the body, insulin begins to be produced and the blood sugar level falls. The same thing happens when we eat low calorie sugar substitutes. The body is preparing to receive and process carbohydrates, but does not receive them. Next time, with the intake of carbohydrates, the body produces an increased amount of insulin and creates fat reserves.

Natural sweeteners

The most common natural sweeteners are: fructose, xylitol, sorbitol. The main drawback of natural sweeteners in their caloric content. Abuse of these sugar substitutes can cause significant harm to the figure. In addition, almost all of them have unpleasant side effects and can cause harm to health.

The only natural sweetener that is good for health is stevia (stevioside). Stevia rejuvenates the skin, increases immunity, normalizes high blood pressure, destroys the parasite-kandite in the body. This sugar substitute is made from a stevia plant, which, by the way, can be grown at home.

Sweeteners xylitol and sorbitol have choleretic and laxative effect (xylitol more than sorbitol). Xylitol can cause bladder cancer. Good point – unlike sugar, does not worsen the state of the teeth.

Sugary substitute fructose – causes a violation of the acid-base balance in the body.

Natural sweeteners do not help to lose weight because of their calorie content. With the exception of stevia, which does not contain calories and does not affect the level of glucose in the blood.

Conclusion: usage of synthetic and natural sugar substitutes and products containing them (advertised as dietary) can lead to weight gain and cause serious harm to health.

What else can replace sugar?
In addition to the above sugar substitutes, you can use honey, which is not only a safe, but also a useful product. You can also use maple syrup. Maple syrup contains 5% sucrose and a few monosaccharides. From maple syrup, you can get solid maple sugar.
